A little bit about Kas:
Growing up in Dallas, Texas and rural East Texas, Kas signed up for Harvest, the YSFP’s pre-orientation program, because she was nervous about making the transition from Texas to Connecticut, and thought being on a farm might make Connecticut feel more like home. After visiting the farm on Fridays for workdays and pizza, she later joined the YSFP staff as a communications manager in the fall of 2018. Ever since, she has felt fortunate to get to work with such inspiring and kind individuals! Studying architecture with an urban studies concentration, she works in under-served communities to improve equality and access in housing, design, and resources. She quickly learned that the number-one priority of any program or initiative in the communities is to have healthy food available for people attending or participating. In so many neighborhoods, fresh food is not only far too expensive, it's not present at all. Working at the YSFP, she has learned more about what it takes to grow a community around a shared passion. It has been rewarding for Kas to see the community grow as more and more people realize that this place is for them, and that the issue of food applies to everyone.
