Meet Virginia Davis ’23

Virginia came to the YSFI wanting to gain a deeper understanding of farm economics, food politics, cooking techniques and how embodied practice informs learning.

During the internship, she volunteered with multiple local organizations in the Atlanta, GA area. This involved packaging groceries, organizing volunteers for an urban foraging non-profit, and gleaning produce from unharvested fields. While volunteering, she dove into an investigation of the nutrition values of food being donated and delivered as part of COVID-19 emergency food efforts.

Virginia’s social work led her to learn about her city in many new ways, in particular the resilience of its people and organizations. This summer, she was also growing vegetables in her garden, biking, listening to podcasts, and spending time with family.
