Research question: How are Australia’s food systems changing as a result of an historic drought, and what role can photography play in documenting the change?

Project description: A photographic examination of Australian farmers and the difficulties that they have experienced as a result of a historically brutal drought. Conditions in Australia, especially in New South Wales, have been compared to the dustbowl in the United States, an area in which I had familial ties.

Notable fellowship moment: Staying with various families in rural New South Wales.

Favorite fellowship meal: Lamb chops!

New questions arising from Sol’s work: How can the effects of agrarian practices (as they relate to climate change) be presented to rural communities who do not believe in climate change?

Sol’s other interests: Climate change and sustainability, pursuing a job in the Peace Corps, photography, sports (golf and squash), reading!
