Meet Angela Higuera ’22!

Both of Angela’s parents come from farming families in Mexico, but after immigrating to the U.S., this upbringing became less mentioned in family conversations. For Angela, the Yale Farm Summer Internship then, has been an opportunity to navigate their own relationship with food and agriculture, especially in thinking about land sovereignty and justice for farmworkers. She is so grateful to be learning from YSFP staff, @massaro_farmers, and the other interns.

One way Angela is exploring food is through artwork about land and nature. For their independent project, Angela plans to use their photography and writing for a digital art gallery, one that tells their story of an evolving relationship to plants, people, and planet.

Crackers have become one of Angela’s new kitchen favorites because they’re an easy way to experiment with new flavor combinations, bringing together the spices and toppings they are curious about. In her free time, Angela is biking, recipe searching, people watching from windows and roofs, and finding natural bodies of water to bathe in.
