Mark Bomford, Director
As a farmer, educator, advocate and leader, Mark Bomford has spent the last two decades immersed in creating sustainable food systems. Mark was the founding Director for the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the University of British Columbia, where he launched an inter-disciplinary program and a thriving 60-acre teaching and research farm on campus. Prior to his work at UBC, Mark worked in the non-profit sector, establishing school gardens, new farms and food enterprises, and a range of international urban agricultural programs. Mark joined Yale University as the Director for the Yale Sustainable Food Program in late 2011. Under the theme of “Food Literate Leadership,” Mark aspires to position the Yale Sustainable Food Program at the forefront of a global movement for change in the food system. Mark is a lecturer in Yale College, where he teaches the seminar, “Approaches to Sustainable Food and Agriculture,” and is a fellow of Berkeley College.
Jacqueline (Lewin) Munno, Programs Manager for Professional Experience
Since joining the then-Project in 2009, Jacqueline has been committed to placing Yale students and alumni at the helm of the ever-changing food system. She envisions, develops, and manages a range of extramural programs, particularly international and pre-professional experiences, for students across academic disciplines. Jacqueline organizes education events at the Yale Farm and manages the wood-fired hearth oven. Before coming to Yale, Jacqueline received a M.A. in Food Culture from Slow Food’s University of Gastronomic Sciences in Parma, Italy, and a B.A. in French Studies and International Affairs from the University of New Hampshire. She came to the Project from Navdanya, a network of seed-keepers and organic producers in New Delhi, India, where she was an assistant to Dr. Vandana Shiva. Jacqueline serves on the board of the National Young Farmer’s Coalition, is an Affiliate Member of the New Haven Food Policy Council, a Senior Fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program, a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier International and proud to be a Pierson College Fellow. Jacqueline is a home cook with Armenian roots who loves feeding people.
Jeremy Oldfield, Manager of Field Academics
Jeremy Oldfield manages the Yale Farm and coordinates on-farm academic programming. During the academic year, he works closely with Yale College students and graduate students on agricultural and pedagogical projects. During the summer, Jeremy directs farm programing and course study for the Lazarus Summer Internship. Jeremy graduated from Williams College in 2005 with a degree in American Studies. In 2012, he received a MFA degree in Writing and Literature at the Bennington Writing Seminars. His food and farming experience includes field manager positions in California and Maine (including Eliot Coleman’s Four Season Farm), and founding The Freelance Farmers, a company that consulted schools, restaurants, and homeowners on customized agricultural infrastructure and programing.
Austin Bryniarski, Lazarus Fellow in Food and Agriculture
Austin Bryniarski designs and organizes educational programming for the Sustainable Food Program. Austin graduated from Yale College in 2016 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. He studied the history, culture, and politics of food and diet in the U.S. context. As an undergraduate, Austin interned at Harvard’s Food Law and Policy Clinic with the help of the Global Food Fellowship and was a Lazarus Summer Intern on the Farm. Now, Austin runs the Chewing the Fat speaker series, is the program coordinator for Harvest, helps manage the Lazarus Summer Internship, and serves as a conduit between the Sustainable Food Program and the Yale College student body.
Anastatia Curley, Programs Fellow
Anastatia Curley comes to the YSFP from the University of Virginia, where she is finishing an English PhD. Her dissertation explores the politics of community in the contemporary novel, and her curiosity about the ways communities structure and sustain themselves also animates her interest in food culture and food systems. At the YSFP, she shapes academic endeavors in food and agriculture, mentors students professionally and academically, and plans events. She holds a B.A. in English from Yale University and worked as the Communications Coordinator for the YSFP from 2007 to 2009.
